Network and Firewall Management
Reliable, segmented and monitored networks with firewalls that are properly configured and maintained. Our Network and Firewall Management designs, secures and maintains the switches, Wi-Fi, firewalls and internet connections your organization depends on. We monitor performance, keep firmware current and review firewall rules so your network stays fast, stable and difficult for attackers to move through.
The network is the foundation every other system sits on. Physical cabling, switches and wireless access points make up the lower OSI layers, while routing and firewall rules control what traffic can reach what. When these are installed once and never revisited, problems accumulate: outdated firmware, open ports nobody remembers, flat networks where a single infected laptop can reach every server, and guest Wi-Fi that shares space with business systems.
HSM IT Services takes ownership of that infrastructure. We document your network, monitor device health and internet links, apply firmware updates and manage configuration changes through a controlled process. Firewall rules are reviewed on a schedule and removed when they are no longer needed. We design segmentation that separates staff devices, servers, guest access, cameras, phones and operational equipment, which limits how far an attacker can travel if one device is compromised.
Secure remote access is part of the service. Exposed remote desktop and outdated VPN appliances remain common entry points for ransomware, so we help you move to modern, multi-factor protected options. Configuration standards draw on the CIS Controls v8.1, particularly secure configuration and network infrastructure management. For organizations with multiple sites, we connect branch offices securely and give you one consistent design instead of a different setup at every location.

How it works
Discover
We map your network devices, connections, rules and remote access methods, and identify weaknesses.
Design
We recommend a target design with segmentation, secure access and any equipment changes needed.
Implement
We make changes in planned windows, with rollback steps and testing to avoid disruption.
Maintain
We monitor, patch and review the network continuously, keeping documentation current as it changes.
Who it is for
This service fits organizations with an office network that has grown over time without a clear design, multi-site businesses that need consistent connectivity, and anyone relying on an aging firewall or VPN. It is especially relevant for clinics, professional offices, warehouses, and industrial or agricultural operations where business systems share the network with cameras, controllers or other connected equipment.
Questions we hear
Why does network segmentation matter for a small business?
On a flat network, every device can talk to every other device, so one compromised laptop can reach file servers, backups and accounting systems. Segmentation divides the network into zones with rules between them. It limits how far an attacker or malware can spread, and it keeps guest, camera and equipment traffic away from business data.
Do we need to buy new firewalls?
Not necessarily. If your current firewall is supported by the manufacturer, receives security updates and has the capacity you need, we will manage it. If it is end of life or lacks features such as modern VPN support, we will explain the risk and recommend a replacement suited to your size and budget.
What is wrong with exposing remote desktop to the internet?
Remote desktop services that are reachable directly from the internet are scanned constantly and are a common way ransomware groups gain access, often by guessing or reusing passwords. We replace that exposure with secure remote access that requires multi-factor authentication and limits what each user can reach once connected.
