Wi-Fi security (WPA3)

Wi-Fi security refers to the settings and standards that protect wireless networks from eavesdropping and unauthorized access, with WPA3 being the current, strongest widely available standard.

WPA3, introduced by the Wi-Fi Alliance in 2018, improves on WPA2 with stronger protection against password-guessing attacks and better encryption. WPA3-Personal uses a shared password, while WPA3-Enterprise lets each user sign in with their own credentials, so access can be removed individually when someone leaves.

Wireless networks extend beyond your walls, into parking lots and neighbouring units. A weak or widely shared Wi-Fi password can let outsiders reach business computers, printers and files. Many small offices still run old routers with outdated settings, or share the same password with staff, guests and contractors for years.

Practical tip: use WPA3, or WPA2 and WPA3 mixed mode if older devices require it, with a long, unique password. Keep guest Wi-Fi on a separate network that cannot reach business systems, change the password when staff leave, update access point firmware regularly and replace equipment that no longer receives security updates.
